The 7-day home reset: one small job a day

Seven short jobs, one for each day of the week, that keep a home running without a big weekend clean.

Big weekend cleans are hard to keep up with. A short job each day is much easier. Here is our seven-day reset, and yes, it matches the shelves in our shop.

Monday: ten minutes for you

Start the week with a long shower and a scalp scrub, and actually put on the moisturizer. A good week starts with you.

Tuesday: one kitchen job

Oil the cutting boards, wipe the fridge door handles and throw out one thing that is past its date.

Wednesday: change a filter

Swap the vacuum filter, wipe the bug zapper tray or charge the gadgets you always forget about.

Thursday: press the test button

Test the smoke and CO alarm. It takes ten seconds. Then check that the fire blanket is still on its hook.

Friday: the car or the go-bag

Check tire pressure on a cold morning and make sure the roadside kit is still in the trunk before weekend plans.

Saturday: grooming day

Brush the dog or cat, check their ears and eyes, and trim nails if needed. Finish with a treat.

Sunday: update and learn

Let the laptop install its updates, run a security scan, and spend ten minutes on that language app you keep meaning to open.

Make it stick: write the seven days on a sticky note and put it on the fridge. Check each one off. It feels good.
